Delegations of the World Games visiting Styria, Austria

During the seminar, hundreds of representatives from all over the world were offered a foretaste of the biggest World Winter Games in the history of the Special Olympics. The guests encountered a rich cultural and linguistic diversity there – a great experience for the delegations, even 130 days before the competitions start.

The representatives of the delegations spent three whole days in Graz and Schladming. They were not only provided with the latest news and interesting information about the Games, but also seized the opportunity to get to know the locations of the Games: Graz, Schladming and Ramsau. For some of the guests, that was a unique experience: seeing natural snow for the first time ;-).

In addition to that, the guests had the chance to exchange thoughts and ideas, make new contacts, or even celebrate reunions. Throughout this cultural exchange, the guests experienced both Austrian cuisine and hospitality.

First Drawing at the “HOD Seminar”

The seminar was launched on Thursday evening, introducing an entirely new program point: For the first time in the history of the Special Olympics, a First-Round-Drawing for both the Floorball and Floor Hockey competitions took place during the seminar.

The delegations were drawn according to the Swiss Ladder System, a drawing mode that determines the competitions in March 2017. “This drawing mode guarantees an exciting competition as well as a fair system of playing”, says Heinrich Olsen, Director of Sports, 2017 World Games.
