Star photographer Manfred Baumann opened his photo exhibit "SPECIAL"
On September 14 in Schladming, Austria, celebrity photographer Manfred Baumann revealed a photography exhibition titled, ‘Special’, showcasing 65 extraordinary photographs of people with intellectual disabilities. The exhibition is a partnership between Baumann, Special Olympics Austria and the "Planai Bahnen".
The 48-year old Vienna based photographer worked for over six months capturing images of models across Austria and recruited models from different associations and schools including Caritas & Du, Lebenshilfe Wien, Mosaik GmbH, Down Syndrom Österreich and Jugend am Werk. Celebrity guests attending the exhibition included musician James Cotriall and Winter Sports stars and Special Olympics World Winter Games Ambassadors Hans Knauss, Michael Tritscher and Alexander Pointner. Baumann drew his inspiration for the project from his 35-year old sister Petra, who has an intellectual disability. He said, “Photography is the only language that can be understood all over the world.”
The exhibition will be open daily until the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games end on 25 March 2017.
